We're All in for Our Scholars

A collage of people

Another impactful day of advocacy for our children at the Minnesota State Capitol is in the books.

Advocacy Day for Children brought together a powerful community of supporters, partners, and advocates committed to ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive. This year’s event was made even more special by NAZ’s own Karla Smith, who served as emcee and helped set an inspiring tone for the day. While scholars were not present, the energy and urgency remained strong as participants called on lawmakers to go “all in” for our scholars.

The day began with a rally highlighting the critical importance of education and the need to protect and invest in our young people. Speakers underscored that the success of our children is directly tied to the long-term health and vitality of our communities, state, and country.

Following the rally, NAZ Parent Advocates continued their work at the Capitol through EPC Day on the Hill—an immersive advocacy experience at the legislature. Parents met with Representative Fue Lee, Representative Esther Agbaje, and Senator Bobby Joe Champion to champion priorities including increased funding for housing supports, equitable implementation of the READ Act, and economic support for small businesses, including child care providers.

Originally scheduled to conclude at midday, the experience resonated so deeply with participants that they chose to extend their time at the Capitol. In addition to legislative meetings, Parent Advocates enjoyed a guided tour of the building led by Kisha Shanks and attended a Senate Education Policy Committee hearing. There, they observed discussion and amendments to SF 3186, a bill that will influence how schools are funded for literacy services.

It was a meaningful and inspiring day of advocacy, learning, and collective action in support of our scholars.
