Volunteer with NAZ

Reading

NAZ anchor partners rely on volunteers to support their work with Northside scholars and families. Our partners provide direct service across our collaborative, from cradle to college and career, and volunteers can make a meaningful impact. Check back often to learn about new ongoing or one-time volunteer opportunities.

Mentoring

Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities is seeking caring adults, particularly African American or other people of color, to mentor children ages 8 to 13.  Each pair or “match” develops a unique relationship based on their interests, hobbies, and values, meeting 2-4 times per month for a minimum commitment of one year. Volunteers spend time with North Minneapolis youth in the community doing free or low-cost activities they both enjoy.  Big Brothers Big Sisters hosts match events for a wide range of interests, including STEAM and career exploration. Through this rewarding experience, you’ll gain new perspectives, new experiences, and a new friend. See for yourself – apply to volunteer today! Volunteer matches are made based on scholar enrollment needs.

Tutoring

Reading Partners is looking for volunteer literacy tutors, particularly African American or other people of color, with the ability to give one hour a week to support a scholar at Ascension Catholic School, a Northside Achievement Zone anchor school. Becoming a volunteer tutor requires no experience, as Reading Partners provides an easy-to-follow curriculum that includes all books, worksheets, and set-by-step lesson plans to teach effective reading lessons.

Ascension has a summer program running June 20-July 28 with tutoring sessions between 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Volunteers can also begin signing up for next school year. Learn more at readingpartners.org/volunteer-twin-cities/ or contact Caitlin Ignasiak at caitlin.ignasiak@readingpartners.org for more information. Volunteer matches are made based on scholar enrollment needs.
