In this op-ed, Sondra Samuels, President and CEO of the Northside Achievement Zone, and other leaders of the Education Partnership Coalition (EPC) share how increased immigration enforcement activity near schools and bus routes is creating fear for scholars and families.
The EPC is a statewide group of nine organizations that focus on children across Minnesota receiving a strong education. With the lifting of restrictions on immigration actions happening near “sensitive locations” (schools, religious institutions, hospitals) ICE presence is disrupting children’s ability to attend school, focus, and learn.
The piece calls on leaders to uphold protections that ensure schools remain safe, supportive places where all children can thrive.
