Last week, many Minneapolis scholars completed the last day of their 24'-25' school year! We've celebrated many graduations as students move into the next phase of their lives–be that a new school, college, or right into a profession. We also wanted to take a moment to appreciate and celebrate scholars at Nelly Stone Johnson Elementary (NSJ) and Ascension Catholic School for their excellent attendance this year.
NAZ has been in a year-long attendance campaign, tracking and encouraging good attendance throughout the community. NAZ Partners NSJ and Ascension shared data on their scholar's attendance from pre-K through fifth grade. Between the months of October 2024-May 2025, scholars at those NAZ Anchor Partners averaged an attendance rate of 87%!
NSJ and Ascension supported and encouraged good attendance by celebrating successes! Each month, classes who had the highest attendance were treated to a pizza party. This and other tactics made all the difference in creating positive change.
At a time where attendance is still bouncing back from the extreme lows brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, we're so proud of all the Northside scholars and families who are prioritizing their attendance! We know there are so many barriers to attendance, all valid and real, so we're glad to see Northsiders recognizing the importance of getting their scholars to class every single day.
Enjoy your summer! We're ready to walk next to you and your scholars in the 25'-26' school year!
